social media publishing scheduleIn a previous blog post I offered 10 Useful Social Media Tips for Better Conversations to help get your social media setup just right for publishing content on your blog, Facebook or other social media. Aside from knowing what sort of content will engage your reader, understanding when to post can result in better social media engagement.

A BuddyMedia report indicated the majority (60%) of posts were published between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM. The peak publishing time is Noon. The report indicated that brands that bucked the trend and published their content outside normal business hours (early morning, after work, late night) had a 20% higher level of engagement.

Dan Zarrella, Social Media Scientist at Hubspot, has been conducting research for over 2 years on the best days and times to Tweet, blog, email, update Facebook and more. His findings confirm that the number of shares on Facebook spikes around Noon, and again around 7pm. Click thru rates on Twitter are also highest around Noon, lunchtime, and 6pm, when people are getting home from work. Zarella presents his results in a webinar here. See the highlights in this infographic from Kissmetrics.
